301 Redirect

A 301 Redirect is an effective method of web page redirection when individual pages or even whole website have changed location. The "301" part is the HTTP code that makes it happen, so that when a web visitor tries to access a page or pages at the "old" url's they are automatically redirected to the new page location.

One of the main benefits of this type of redirect is that almost 100% of the "link juice" (ranking power) is passed on to the redirected page. This is especially important if the page was ranking highly in Google at the old url.
